Our Story

A recipe worth keeping.

Long before Aunt Margaret's Nuts + Bolts had a name, a label or a website, there was simply a family recipe.

Dating back to the 1950s, Aunt Margaret's savoury snack mix became one of those recipes that stuck around – brought out for gatherings, shared with family and friends, and passed down rather than forgotten.

Decades later, we decided it deserved another chapter.

Aunt Margaret's Nuts + Bolts brings that family recipe forward here in Manitoba: familiar cereals, crackers and pretzels tossed in the savoury seasoning that made the original worth holding onto in the first place.

From the recipe box to the market

What started as something made for family has gradually found its way onto market tables, into homes, and into the hands of people who had never met Aunt Margaret – but understood pretty quickly why the recipe survived.

We make Aunt Margaret's in small batches, with the same idea at the centre of it:

Make something good, share it with people, and don't overcomplicate it.

Our story, in print

In October 2025, the Winnipeg Free Press sat down with us to tell the story behind Aunt Margaret's Nuts + Bolts – from a family holiday tradition and handwritten recipe to the little Manitoba business carrying it forward today.

Read "Throwback festive snack" in the Winnipeg Free Press.

Where we are today

Aunt Margaret's is currently returning to markets, pop-ups and events around Winnipeg.

Online ordering is temporarily unavailable while we prepare a permitted production facility for the next stage of business – but Aunt Margaret's itself isn't going anywhere.

You can keep up with where we'll be next on our Find Us page.
